ER nurses.. when did you stop working during pregnancy?

We do 12.5 hour shifts- I was wondering how many weeks did you work up to and did you feel okay or wish you left sooner or later.

My sister is an ER nurse and she worked up until the day she was induced at 39+5. It was an emergency induction due to high blood pressure. But her plan was always to work up until she went into labor because she wanted all her paid time off afterwards.

I worked in the OR with some long strenuous shifts.... we do a lot of lifting with ortho and spine until 38 weeks. I had her at 39 weeks. I was so glad to have those few days to rest before.... I could have worked until I had her but decided not to.

I'm a nurse! My due date came and went and then I worked the 12 hour shifts in a row...and it still didn't put me into labor!  I think it just depends on your pregnancy.

I worked until 39+2 with my first and I will probably do the same with this one. Had my first at 39+3. Except now I do rapid response and code team for the hospital. I work ICU.

We try and make sure pregnant nurses are at least spending half the shift sitting at the check in desk or out at triage. Most make it past 35 weeks. I’m at 33 now and as long as I don’t spend all 12 hours with an assignment I’m OK. Any time I take before leave shortens time with the baby so I’ll try and make it as long as possible! The bathroom breaks are the hardest at this point.

I do med surg bedside, 12-14 hour shifts depending on charting, and I worked until the day before my due date, delivered the day after my due date. :) I wish I'd been able to sit at the desk half my shift, but I pulled the same workload as our non pregnant staff.
