Paid Maternity Leave

Mr

Just because I’m curious to know. I’m Canadian and we get 12-18 months of paid maternity leave (you pick between 12 or 18, same total money paid over each term). It is a government benefit so paid to anyone who has worked 600 hours in the past year (I believe) and is paid up to a maximum of 55% of your wage up to $50,000 (I believe). Both men and women are eligible, only one parent can take it. Same with adoptive parents. Same sex couples etc. This is a fully government funded program. If you aren’t Canadian and don’t have this in your country do you think you should? Do you think the government should be paying for parents to have 12-18 months off work with pay?
