Birth Story

My baby girl made birth a little dramatic and tough just like she did during pregnancy. I had a membrane sweep done on Wednesday May 2nd with serious cramping afterwards. I proceeded to lose my mucus plug throughout the day all day Thursday. Come around 9/9:30pm Thursday night I feel a small gush of water and am not sure if I peed myself or my water broke. Sure enough, my water broke. Several gushes later and I was positive. Only contractions didn’t start for about a half an hour. The first couple lasted about 30-45 seconds and were a few min apart. After the 2nd or 3rd contraction it amped up. Next thing I know my contractions are lasting a minute and are between 1-2 min apart. Luckily my mother in law was already on her way over with pads cause of my water breaking. I could hardly make it up the stairs to change to go to the hospital. She ran basically every red light and sped as fast as she could.
Once at the hospital(10:30/11) I’m checked, 5cm dilated and moving quickly. They offer me the epidural and I jump at it! Next thing I know I have to wait, an emergency c section. About an hour later I get the epidural. It’s only working on my right side. Eventually it’s working all over. Another hour or so later the epidural has completely worn off. They offer to have the anesthesiologist come back and I of course say yes. One problem, another emergency c section. He won’t make it in time before I need to start pushing. I’m feeling every contraction and screaming through them all. They give me more meds but it didn’t help, nothing was even taking the edge off.
It’s time to push. I want to punch the resident dr, very quietly she says “you can do this, you gotta push, keeping pushing” I’m exhausted and don’t feel like I can. I’ve told my husband to shut up a few times. As he’s saying the same things as the resident dr. After several contractions baby’s head is out and I’m ready to pass out. Nope. Her heart rate started dropping and I had to push more than ever. My Ob comes in and tells me how it is. A few more contractions and she’ll be out. She counts down til she’s out. It’s what I needed to get through the rest of delivery, blunt and honest.
She’s out. The umbilical cord is wrapped around her little throat. Luckily only once and they put her on my chest right away. It was scary and a little traumatic. I felt as my body tore from giving birth. Stitching up was no joke either. So very happy to finally have my baby girl. As a first time mom I don’t think anyone could’ve prepared me for the pain. From water breaking to baby being born was about 6 hours. Luckily I only had to push for 45 min.
Elayne Grace born May 4th, 3:29am 20 inches long. Love her so much, I can’t believe she’s a week and a half old
