Running question

So I tend to not exercise regularly, but my job has me walking on my feet for 2-6 hours daily, so I manage to stay at 132lbs. My boyfriend wants to start running this summer every weekday morning. He's wanting to run about 4-5 miles and wants to stop for push ups and sit ups in between.....will this help tone my body? I'm not on the heavy side in terms of looking like it, my weight is pretty evenly distributed, but I just want to look toned I guess. Would just running everyday help?
