What do you know about the NRA?

Question

What is your opinion of this the National Rifle Association? The only opinion I see of this organization is slander such as, greedy for financial gain, child murderers, etc. Have you ever: checked out the organization's website, talked to an NRA member, listened to their side of the gun debate? They’re fucking terrible. They were originally a more moderate organization that has gone increasingly into total wackadoo territory. 
That video, The Violence of Lies they posted last summer was straight up inciting violence. 
Yes I’ve spoken to their members, but I mostly make it a point to avoid them.

I got a lifetime membership with them when I was in high school shooting trap because they really helped out with some of the costs. 
They had these “friends of the NRA” banquets that raised money to support high school trap teams and a portion of it went to charity. It really helped me, and a few others on my team make it into college trap shooting.

Only thing I have heard about the NRA is when a video of trump at some sort of conference put our knife crime down to the fact we don’t have guns. So I really don’t have a great impression of it. (Everyone in the video was agreeing)

Everyone makes out the NRA to be this terrible thing. Do you know that when they do hold banquets the money they make off of that goes to different kinds of charity. They also sell self defense firearms which is usually what they have, cause they do want to protect us from these terrible things. what’s happening now is boiling down to people who have mental problems and they are not getting addressed, and bullying. Most Kids are assholes and they don’t think about what bullying and words can do to someone, especially if said person who goes on a shooting spree. Yes there are some out there who just want to kill people, and that’s where our government needs to be more proactive in protecting us. I can’t remember which one it was at the moment, but one of the shootings, the government did know about this and they did nothing. I carry a firearm in my vehicle all the time for my own protection cause I’ll be damned if someone tries to shoot me just cause I’m there and I have no way to protect myself. Especially if my kids are with me. Yes my husband and I are members of the NRA. But our firearms are strictly self defense, hunting, and target practice. We aren’t going to go on a spree. My kids will also know how dangerous they can be.

Regardless, all of your screenshots have a very biased feel behind them. Especially since the NRA website is a “source”. Of course they are going to make themselves look good

I know that they value what they perceive to be their individual right to own a gun as more valuable than the lives of children. Is there really anything else I need to know after that?
I also find their deep pockets and political power as lobbyists to be the biggest impediment to common sense gun control.
They spend so much money indoctrinating people to believe that the words “gun control” mean “take my guns.”

I know a good bit. We used to be NRA members, but we canceled our membership a couple years ago. We personally can’t support them in good conscious.
