Compression socks during pregnancy

I am a server who works long, strenuous shifts. I am due toward the end of the October and will be working like crazy all summer long. While talking to my doctor she mentioned compression socks while I’m working. It is going to be extremely hot so I’ve purchased maternity capris and shorts in advance and I recently saw some lower/shorter compression socks on amazon. I’m wondering if these work or if anyone has any other suggestions/recommendations for what I can do to prevent swelling/veining that won’t look ridiculous and force me to wear long pants.
