Too crazy/unique!?

I came across the name Miyoko (Me-oh-ko) and at first was like that’s super different, but now i think it’s super cute! She could be called coco for short 😭 i told my mom and she looked at me like i was crazy. Does anyone else think this is cute or am i just crazy🤣

My middle name is Miyoko! So funny to see it here. It’s actually a bit old fashioned in Japanese (it was my grandma's name) but it’s a nice girl name. Almost any name ending in -ko in Japanese is a feminine name. Means beautiful child, if you weren’t aware.

I know a lot of people on here disagree with me, but personally I'd say if you aren't Japanese I wouldn't recommend using it.
One of my reasons for saying this is that my name is Sasha, which while much more mainstream and western sounding than Miyoko, is actually Russian. Every couple months though I get someone asking excitedly "oh, are you Russian?" after I introduce myself. I have to say no, and I always feel weirdly a little bit like I'm apologizing for not being Russian. I don't know. It's not a huge deal. But they always sound excited like if I was Russian they have a follow up conversation they're looking forward to, or like we'd have some deeper connection because their grandma was Russian, or whatever. It's always like I'm disappointing them. And most people don't even know Sasha is a Russian name. Almost everyone will know Miyoko is Japanese. 
I imagine a non-Japanese kid with a very Japanese name would get suuuuuper sick of explaining that they aren't part Japanese again and again to all the well-meaning strangers who ask about their name. And quite possibly they'll want to deflect responsibility for the confusion by rolling their eyes and blaming their parents. Maybe not! But there's a decent chance. 
There are a lot of beautiful names out there. If you're not totally set on this one, I think it'd be worth exploring others.

That’s my niece’s middle name (she’s part Japanese). I think it’s beautiful, but I think Mia would age as a nickname better than Coco would. I also think, while it’s ultimately your decision what to name your child, you should consider what other people are saying about cultural appropriation if you are not Japanese.

I love it!! I'm a little biased though as I'm 1/4 Japanese so my siblings and I all have Japanese names as well as "American" names.

I think the name is overall cute 😊 but like others have said I would expect there to be some of the obvious questions like “are you Japanese?” Or for your daughter to be asked that question. But if that doesn’t bother you then I say do as you wish. I personally have always been interested in Japanese culture and the names are unique but personally I couldn’t go as far as to name my child a Japanese name.
