Epidural or No Epidural?

Question

If no what were your reasons? I’m undecided if I want to have one when the time comes or not.

My reason for wanting one is simply that if you don’t have to be in pain, why choose to? Not bashing anyone out there who want or had a natural birth. That’s great that you were able to do that. But childbirth is usually the most painful thing a woman experiences and I’d like to enjoy with as little pain as possible.

I didn’t have one, I wanted to feel what it is like to have a natural birth. I did it and plan on doing it again.

I chose to have an epidural Bc I was in labor for 55 hours after the 48 hr mark I had to get it

I had an induction at 28 weeks and 4 days and it took 20 hours. I wasn’t allowed to eat or drink anything in case I had to have an emergency c section. I made it through 9 hours of labor before I asked for an epidural and it was a life saver. I was able to rest and gather more energy before my daughter was born. I don’t feel like I missed out on anything because I could feel everything without the pain.

I wanted an epidural at first but was denied one. Personally I am so glad and proud that I had my son without one! I felt an overwhelming sense of achievement and labour and delivery were nowhere near as bad as I imagined. Everyone is different but I was so set on having one at first and now I’ve been through it without one I know my body is more capable than I thought.

I’ve had 2 births- my first was without an epidural, but for my second it was medically recommended for me to have one to reduce my risk of seizures during labour.
Both my labours were really positive experiences.  My first baby was smaller and positioned well.  I mostly laboured at home and she was born within an hour of getting to the birthing unit.
My second baby was bigger and was more posterior.  I definitely struggled more with the contractions and the pain this time around and was so grateful for the epidural- it was magic.  I felt so much less drained after my baby was born too.

I desperately wanted an epidural. But I went from 2-10cm in 30 minutes so out of nowhere I started pushing and there was no time for the epidural. Everyone was saying ‘oh your so lucky you were made to birth babies’...and’ aren’t you so glad you didn’t get an epidural’?! I seriously would have done ANYTHING to avoid that pain. For me it was horrible and now that I know what to expect I’m definitely getting one this time around as long as the same scenario doesn’t play out again!!🤞🏼🤞🏼

I screamed for an epidural at 8cm, there was only one person on duty that could administer epidurals and he was with another lady. By the time he got to me babies head was out so didn’t have one!
Im so glad that I didn’t now, because i was able to get up and move around straight afterbirth, where as if I would have had one I would not of been able to. 
This was especially good as baby had to go over to special care for a few hours. So i was able to go and see her straight away.

I went without one.. I was more scared if that needle then child labour. still am.  after my water broke i was induced with oxytocin about 5 hours ish in... And 6 hours after that active labour started.. I was only in active labour and feeling contractions for about 6 hours.  after i had my son i was ready to do it all over again. the whole pregnancy and labour was just an amazing experience. loved every second of it.  I also have Arthritis, so I've been in a lot of pain before... to me the pain is about the same between the two. And what helped me get through labour was knowing hey i deal with arthritis pain in majority of my joints i have cried before multiple times it was that bad, and I get nothing out of that pain, labour yes it pain ful but at the end of that pain I get blessed with a baby which helped relax me, I also didn't cry during labour or made much sounds. the epidural I heard stories of those rare cases of it causing back pain and other things and that scared me I have enough joint pain as it is I don't need it in my back too that was my main thing why I didn't get it.

Depending on how your labour goes you might not have a choice at one point. I wouldn't decide now. See how things go
