Doctor vs. Midwife?

Moms, why did you choose a doctor or midwife? I’m looking for pros and cons of each before I decide.

I had a o.b. with the first 3 and have a midwife this time. I wanted a midwife this time because I had become more informed. O.B.s are trained as surgeons with a side of prenatal care and birth. midwives are solely trained on womens health, pregnancy, birth, post natal care etc. they're more bout the whole picture as opposed to just making sure everything looks good and making sure baby comes out. they're also more family oriented and inclusive. they also dont push for unnecessary medical procedures or try and convince you to have unnecessary things done like inductions or c sections unless there is truly a reason for one. they will also be with you throughout your labor, delivery and after unlike an o.b. who will likely just show up for the birth (most of the time it's not even your o.b., its whomever is on call)

I enjoy the holistic care of my midwife. She provides my prenatal, labour and delivery and postnatal care. I trust her 200%. However if my pregnancy was high risk, I would use an obstetrician.

Am I the only mother that couldn’t give a flying rat turd about being “holistic” or “natural”? Like it’s gonna hurt, give me some drugs.

I wanted to do it at birthing center with a midwife but I was considered too high risk because of my past history of miscarriage. So I found a doctor that works with a midwife but I didn’t like the doctor so I switched to an OB that delivers where I want, supports my birth decisions and is amazing. I’ve been with them since I was 16weeks with my son. Now I’m pregnant with my 3rd. For me, I wanted a midwife because I wanted a very natural childbirth, possibly water birth or Home birth. I wanted someone that would be very supportive and by myside through it like a doula. But when it came down to it and all my risk factors, deciding on the OB doctors office I did was the best factor for me.

I used a OB. While I liked some of the benefits that midwives provide, they cannot help in very crucial situations and I wanted to be able to know the person who would be helping me/baby if something went wrong. I did not want to just trust a stranger.
My OB is wonderful though. Happiest man on the planet lol

I'm going to use a midwife because I'm going to a free standing birth center. I hate hospitals (yes, I know they do a lot of good, it's just a phobia) and don't want to be hooked up to a machine during labor. I'd rather my pregnancy be treated as a natural thing rather than a disease.

I chose a midwife because I don't think OBs should be used unless ypur pregnancy is high risk or not normal. midwives are more holistic and they know natural childbirth better than an OB who is a trained surgeon. thank goodness we have OBs because they are definitely necessary and wonderful but I don't think that a normal pregnancy shouldn't be taken on by an OB
