When do you tell your employer

I've only just found out I'm pregnant. this is my first. I'm wondering if I should wait the appropriate timeline to let me boss know or tell him right away so they can start making arrangements

It depends on the relationship you have with your boss as well as your work duties. I told my boss pretty soon after I found out because my job had some duties that would be unsafe to do while pregnant. If that weren’t the case then I probably would have told him right before I announced on social media. I think it’s poor taste to share publicly before informing your employer in most cases.

Depends on what your job is. I’m a nanny and didn’t tell me boss until I was like 14 weeks along and she noticed my little bump. I don’t get maternity leave so for me it really didn’t make much of a difference telling my boss early or not.

I told my boss when I was 5 weeks because I have a really good relationship with my boss and team but I know a lot of people wait until 10-12 weeks. Depends on your job too, as others have said.

I waited until after I had received a confirmation of my pregnancy from my doctor. Some employers require a note proving the pregnancy for HR reasons. So once it was confirmed at 6 weeks, I saw my doctor at 8 weeks and asked him for a confirmation of pregnancy letter for my employer and he typed a quick note attached to my test results. I took those in to my employer so i could prove I was pregnant and if they ever tried to do anything shady (not allow time off, let me go home sick,) I could prove they knew and I had a medical need.
