Tackling Misconceptions - Slavery

Xig • In the honourable words of Howard Moon - "I`m the fighter, you little tit-box."

I can imagine this being a tough one to address, but I’m interested to hear your thoughts and knowledge on the matter.

I got into a bit of a debate with someone on Glow recently. She was generally spreading hate, but brought a common misconception to light. She suggested that the Qur’an promotes slavery and the rape of non Muslim slave-women. She admitted that the Qur’an doesn’t directly say this, but said that it’s obvious what is being suggested. I realised that this is something that is commonly used against Islam. And no doubt, it is used completely incorrectly against Islam.

I wrote out a response for her, but decided against sending it. I will instead alter it a little, and post it here.

So, I ask you to share:

- Your knowledge of slavery, and anything related, in Islamic history.

- Your own views, and even possible misconceptions, regarding slavery in Islam.
