Customers look to boycott Whataburger that turned away officer for his weapon

A Texas police officer was turned away from a fast-food restaurant because of his weapon and it caused a minor uproar in the neighborhood, with some people talking about a boycott.

However, both sides say it was a misunderstanding that they hope to resolve quickly.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday, a plain-clothes detective came into this restaurant and tried to order. The employee told him they don't serve those with weapons. Friendswood police says the detective ID'd himself but it didn't matter. When he realized he wasn't getting far, he left so that things didn't escalate.

Word traveled quickly and customers started getting irate. Many are even considering a boycott of the burger chain until things get figured out.

Whataburger issued a statement that reads in part:

This was an unfortunate misunderstanding of our open carry policy, and we've reached out to the detective because we want to make this right. Our company policy allows law enforcement with proper identification to open carry at our restaurants, and we'll be reinforcing this policy with employees through additional training."

Should that employee who told the officer he had to leave and would not serve him be fired from his/her job even when he identified himself as a police officer ... I was reading the comments about it and people were stuck on it some even went to call the store to have them fired
