40 days cycle

So me and my best friend were talking and we're very open with each other and we started talking about our periods for some reason and I mentioned that my cycle is 40 days and she freaked out. She said it's not normal and that I need to see a doctor and get birth control to regulate it. But it is regular? And I'm perfectly healthy and not dating so why should I be on birth control? Is this not normal or ?
