Hi ladies, this may not be the app for this but i really need some advice in my situation. so I’m 20 and I have really been struggling trying to get into college successfully.. whenever I do my fafsa application my mom acts as if she “can’t find her info” or she always makes up some excuse. Mind you, it says I’m a dependent student so i need my moms information. My mom is not the type to ever knock her kids down she always supports us in whatever we do. But I feel as if she really doesn’t care about me gointo college.. she says she wants someone to at least graduate college but my brother is working in the plant and my sister had a baby 4 years back she’s just now trying to start college. I graduated two years ago and I still have not been which I always fill out my application etc BUT it just seems as if nothing is going planned out right and I’m seriously not understanding why. When I graduated I had it in my mind about the army .. I was one of the very few to pass the asvab test as a lot of the kids didn’t take it seriously. When the recruiter told me I passed I was so shocked. I went talked to the recruiter even tried to get an even higher score for the air force but I graduated a while ago I didn’t remember quite a bit of things. He said I scored high enough to even have a good job while in the army like nursing but wasn’t high enough for the Air Force. Well I switched up on the army as I find the Navy will be a better deal for me. I never signed the contract yet but I was scared bc once you sign your sworn into it and you can no longer get out unless you go AWOL and that’s not good lol. I held back on the navy also bc I wanted to give it a lot of thought before I just sworn myself in.. it’s been on my mind heavy BUT going to college and becoming an RN is literally my dream. Im stuck in between the two but I just can’t seem to get into college.. what I’m saying is the Navy and becoming an RN is both in my mind heavy and idk which way to go. Should I just take the chance and go to the navy? I know I can go to school whilst in the navy and they will pay for school but idk what should I do .. I can’t continue to sit in the house and work! I need to feel like I’m accomplishing something

I’m active duty navy if you have any specific questions. They also do have a program for people trying to go into the nursing corps and become an officer

Have you considered joining in the Reserves or Guard capacity. I was a single mom and needed to go to school, but it is expensive and I wasn’t ready to go Active Duty, since I had a child and worried about deployments. I also thought that the Guard would give me a up close look at the Services without being Active and full time. I chose the Air National Guard and as long as you are in the Guard you can go to school, with the benefits they offer! It was the best choice for me. Maybe just check it out since you aren’t 100% sold on joining. If you like it you can also go Active Duty later.

I would sit your mom down and let her know this is important to you. Could she be hiding something? Does she skip paying her taxes? Is your dad around? If they aren’t a married couple you can use either parent’s tax information. Surely she can dig out her tax form for something this important to you. You can’t be passive about your future and making your dreams come true. 
You can go to the financial aid department of the nursing school you want to attend and tell them your situation. In some cases you can be declared an independent student and they will use only your information. It’s a huge commitment to sign your life over to the military/your country. It shouldn’t be taken lightly. Based on your post, I would encourage you to find another way to reach your goals. It sounds too much like a desperate last resort for you. Plus, they own you once they have you. I think you would be miserable. Wishing you the best of luck and I believe you can do anything you put your mind to. Don’t give up on yourself!

the only thing with the navy is that if you become an HM it doesn't transfer to civilian world. but talk to them about officer programs, and the nursing programs. they can help, also do your research

I think a lot of people in your position choose the armed forces.  And I don’t mean that in a bad way- of course you should be absolutely sure of your decision but it makes sense for many people— if there is anyone that you can connect to that is in the Navy currently or has been through Basic training that would probably clarify things for to hear about another person’s experience.
