This will be a rant so just hang with me. We have Tricare insurance and normally everything is covered but an admissions fee and a daily stay charge. I live in a rural area so there aren’t a lot of options for a VBAC. The closest one is 45 minutes away with the next one being an hour and a half. At my first appointment they call me back and tell me that it will be between $450 and $550 to give birth and I need to set up a payment plan. I said that didn’t seem right because it was only $78 and change to give birth to my son 14 months ago. She said she had talked to my insurance. I still didn’t feel comfortable with it and we declined to set up a payment plan. I called my insurance and asked if this was correct and they said absolutly not. For several reasons and most of them having to do with the fact that they can’t bill you for services you have not received. After talking to my insurance and seeing that other people were ripped off by this office I decided to go to a different OB. Now three months later I get a bill for $486.04 from this original office for my delivery. It had a note at the bottom that says I have 90 days to pay in full or we get sent to collections. I called and basically asked what the hell was going on. I had one appointment and never made another one and you are charging me for 5x more for a procedure that won’t have anything to do with your office. She said we won’t have to pay it but I’m not holding my breath. I’m preparing to get numerous bills from them. It was so obvious that they were trying to swindle me out of money and honestly I don’t know how you can be that brazen and still be in business.
