Baby shower question

So I'm doing October and I haven't had anybody offered to throw a baby shower. My sister-in-law mentioned something about a baby shower but then when I talk to my mom it was more that she's willing to help with one not throw one. So do I just go on and wait or do you think I should mention something to some of my friends and see if maybe they want to help? I don't want to be rude.
