Period confusion post d&c

I had a d&c; on 5/11. I continued spotting for weeks. But this past Tuesday I started having heavier bleeding and cramps that looked/felt like a regular period. Is it possible to go straight to having a period without the spotting ever stopping after a d&c;? I was on vacation across the country, but I will be home tonight and don’t know if I should be calling my doctor on Monday. The bleeding is just about done again. I’m so confused and mad at my body!! 😢
