Midwife vs OBGYN

Which do you like better midwives or OBGYNs? And what are the major differences? I am a FTM and am going to my first appointment, I will be 9 weeks along. I am going to a midwife and I was surprised to hear that I would not be having an ultrasound at my first appointment. Is this normal?
