Team Green- It's a Girl!

Aurora Jean was born 6/15 at 1:53am. She weighs 8lbs, and is 20.25 inches long.

My goal was to try for a VBAC, but I hadn't dilated at all and the doctor said they wouldn't be able to induce me unless I was dilated at least 2cm. At 41+1, I went in for a non-stress test. The doctor said if everything looked good, they would let me go a little longer to either try to go into labor on my own or at least make enough progress that they could induce me. Everything looked great, except my blood pressure was high. They also checked my cervix and I was dilated to 2cm! So, the doctor had me go to triage to have my blood pressure monitored. They decided that since my blood pressure didn't go down and I was already over 41 weeks, that it would be best to induce me. I got set up in L&D; and they inserted the foley bulb and started a low dose of pitocin. The induction went well. When they checked my foley bulb, it had fallen out and I didn't know. At that point I was 6cm, and my water broke on its own while they were checking me. After that, the contractions got pretty intense, so I got the epidural. They turned off the pitocin while I got the epidural and I was contracting well on my own, so they ended up turning it off for good to let my body take over. I rested for a while, and was feeling pressure by my butt during contractions. The midwife came to check me and said it was time to have a baby! They started to get set up and the midwife had me do one trial push. I was pushing and they yelled for me to stop. They finished getting everything ready and it only took another 6 or 7 pushes and out came the baby. I got my VBAC! I was so happy! They placed the baby on me as they did the delayed cord clamping. At first they were saying he, but then they opened the legs and said, "There's girl parts! It's a girl!" We we're so excited. We have a 2 year old son at home, so now we have one of each. It was a pretty smooth labor and delivery. Much, much different than my son's birth. We are all doing well and so far this recovery has been easier than the emergency c-section last time. She's latching and breastfeeding well so far.
