Genetic testing?

Has anyone opted to do genetic testing(sequential screening) to see if your baby may be at risk for birth defects? If so, why? Is it worth it to do if you kno you are healthy?

My husband and I are choosing to have the testing done. We both agreed that if something were wrong we would be better prepared finding out early rather than finding out the day of. My husband also has a genetic heart disease so this also is a reason for us to get the testing. We need to know what we are being faced with on top of the heart disease.

We chose to do the blood test. We both wanted to know as early as possible if there was something wrong so we could decide what to do and how to prepare.

The one they use for downs, and whatnot? Where they test your blood, not an amnio? I did the panel like that, if so. It's worth it.

I did all the testing that was offered because it was free and we have the feeling of "might as well". I think it's good to know everything up front that way we can educate ourselves if needed. It won't change our love for our baby, maybe just how we prepare. Plus, my dad's birth father is a bit of a mystery health wise to the whole family so I thought it was a good idea.

I did but because we are also trying to pinpoint what caused my sons disabilities. Everything came back normal on me and all the ultrasounds are normal for the baby. I'm dreading my bills though.

Anyone can have a baby with a genetic abnormality, no matter how healthy. To some degree it's random (though rare). My doctor said its a good idea to do the test because if there's anything that might require special assistance at birth, you can be prepared and make sure the right resources will be available when you need them. I got the test.

I did it at 10 weeks.  My doctor uses Progenity.  You also can learn the sex at this time as well, and it's pretty accurate.  If you can afford it do it.  I've seen my EOB come through the mail and they are charging my insurance over 15K... Can't wait to see the final bill.  😬
