same/similar name as cousin??

My oldest brother named his 3rd boy Tobiahs and is nicknamed Toby quite regularly. He is 4. My husband and I like the name Toby (not as a nickname for anything, just Toby) Is it too similar to call our boy (due in Oct) this if his cousin sort of has this name?

Depends how often you see the cousin. But I’d say too similar if you see them more than once a year.

Well I wouldn't name my child the same as one of their cousins no. Esp as it's his regularly used nickname. Unless you literally never see them.

Several in my family share the same names.
