Automatic notification for disease?

J

Iceland and the U.S. have been doing DNA studies on volunteers from their respective populations. Iceland has about 60,000 for which their DNA has been fully sequenced and the U.S. has about 72,000 but looking to have a full 1 million. The researchers are saying if they find genes that can cause or have high risk for cancer, Alzheimer's or other serious diseases, they cannot tell the person to whom the DNA belongs. That currently by law, they are not allowed to warn people of their health risks.

My question is, should this be allowed? If you donated your DNA or the govt got it some other legal way and studied it, should they be able to warn you about disease and would you even want to know?
