Birth Story

Sarah

So! A month later, but I have the time to write it out and share now!

My original due date was May 27th. I had GD and had been treating it but adjusting my diet and taking 2.5 mg of glyburide for my fasting number only. I had my non-stress test as usual the morning of May 17. Baby girl moved around as normal, but my ultrasound showed that my amniotic fluid was low. So I was sent over to triage and from there I got admitted and told that I was going to be induced. Not what I had wanted, but obviously the best decision for me and the baby!

I was given a balloon catheter to help open up my cervix to 3 cm since I wasn’t dilated at all, as well as given a medication to take every four hours to induce minor contractions and get the process moving. Stayed this way from 11 am 5/17 until 12/1-ish am on 5/18. My husband didn’t stay over, but my mom did. Hubby wanted to get a good nights sleep so that he was prepared to be with me on the 18th (and he also hates hospitals lol). A nurse came in between 12 and 1 AM and pulled out my catheter. She told me I was 3 cm dilated and that my contractions should slow down for a while. NOT A CHANCE! Within 15 mind my contractions increased ten fold. Within an hour I was dilated to 6 cm. Within another 45 minutes I had escalated to 8 cm dilated. The pain was NOTHING that I could have ever imagined! An thought of not getting an epidural went out the window. By now my mom had called my husband to get to the hospital ASAP and I had this overwhelming need to push. They flew me down to L&D;! Husband arrived and an amazing nurse named Kris guided me through my contractions with breathing techniques and I got my epidural. By 5 am I was fully dilated, but baby girl hadn’t come down the birth canal far enough, so I was given 2 shots of some drug to slow down my contractions and give baby girl time to move down. Around 7:30 I was told to push, but ultimately forceps were needed to get her out. Two small tears later and Miss Jenna Nicole arrived at 8:28 am, 5/18/18, 6 lbs 3 oz, 18 1/2 inches, and perfect in every way! Tomorrow is her 1 month birthday and I can’t believe how much she’s grown! 💕💕💕
