How do you cut your babies nails?

My sons nails are starting to get so long and scratchy! 🙃 Our nurses in the maternity ward said not to use a file because we might file the skin and I tried using clippers yesterday but accidentally pinched his skin and felt terrible. How do you get the nails cut? Does it just take practice or are there better methods?

Cut them while he’s sleeping . Baby nails are so paper thin sometimes you can just bite them off .

The easiest way I’ve found out, (I use the normal baby clippers, not scissors), but i wait til she’s in her bassinet napping during the day, and I wait until 15-20 minutes into her nap and I just cut them very gently and try not to move her too much. I have yet to cut her by doing this. Just make sure there is a lot of good natural light!

Little baby nail scissors, it sounds scary but it was so much easier than those tiny little clippers, I couldn’t even see what I was doing with those lol

The first couple of weeks my sons nails would start to peel off exactly where they needed to be cut. But after that we used nail clippers. I recommend waiting until they are sleeping so they don’t move when you do it!
