Any excuse for a party but don't feel forced to have one if you don't want to! I didnt and don't regret not having one. My friends who recently got engaged, he had family fly out so right after they were engaged they went to a family bbq to celebrate. It was very sweet and just a nice family reunion (and a way both sides of the family could meet!)
