Potential miscarriage
The day after I found out I was pregnant, I started bleeding. I went to the doctor in a panic, and he did a serial blood test to confirm that my hcg levels were indeed rising, so everything was going as expected thus far.
That was two weeks ago. Yesterday we were on our way to a friend's cottage when I started some mild spotting again, this time coupled with some serious back pain. It got back enough that we pulled over to a nearby hospital. They didn't have an ultrasound machine sensitive enough to check on the pregnancy, so they could only check my hcg levels, which were not good. In the two weeks since my last hcg test, my levels had only moved from 84 to 293, which is not a good sign. They sent me home and said there wasn't much else they could tell me.
Today I went to my family doctor, who suggested I go to a more specialized hospital for an ultrasound. Seven hours in an emergecy room later, I received new hcg levels (now 276...) and an ultrasound that showed the egg sac, but no baby.
So either I have my dates messed up and I'm not far enough along to have a baby detectable by ultrasound, or I have miscarried.
I have an appointment Monday morning with an early pregnancy clinic to check my levels again and redo the ultrasound if necessary, but for now I'm just waiting for the axe to fall.
Part of my really wishes we had just continued on to the cottage, because the back pain and spotting only lasted an hour or so, so if I hadn't had my levels checked I would have stopped worrying. But here I am, preparing for the worst.
Please send your good thoughts. I need them, and am already taking comforted in the similar experiences of women on here.
