Would you sign a petition for your neighborhood if it seemed like it may be fueled by racism?

My husband and I just moved into a new house, we were outside doing yard work when a neighbor came over to introduce herself.

She came with a clipboard and asked us to sign a petition for keeping a church out of the neighborhood. It was a missionary baptist church (which, here in the south is an all black/mostly black church)

I asked what her reasoning was, and she said “you know, I want to keep them out”. But she wouldn’t ever get to the actual point. By them, she could’ve meant church goers, but I think I knew what she meant. I’m not sure what to do, I refused the petition, and hope others do as well.
