What is the best birth control method for teens?

I accidentally put this in the "Avoiding Pregnancy" tab, oops!

I'm sexually active and never fail to use a condom when being intimate with my long-time boyfriend. But, I would like to have an extra "barrier" to use in conjunction with condoms for added protection. I know most teens use BC pills, but I would like something that lasts longer & is more effective, like an IUD or the Implanon/Nexplanon. What method do you ladies think would be best for me, that is also affordable for a working teen? (I don't plan on using my parents' health insurance, because I would like this to be confidential.) I personally would NEVER do anything that sits inside you. Too much concentrated hormones in my opinion, and there have been tons of horror stories of them (you can look them up yourself - especially the IUD)

I started using the pill at 16. I used Lutera.

** there is a website www.bedsider.org where you can register your phone number, and they will send you a text message every single day at the time you set to remind you to take your pill. They have tons of information on safe sex and sex education as well

I would recommend something low maintenance with a low failure rate like the implant, shot, or IUD. It's easy to forget to take a pill, etc, when you're young. No matter what you choose, condoms are the only way to prevent STIs.

Honestly I'd talk to a Dr about your birth control options and they'll see which one would suit you and your lifestyle etc. There's nuvaring, pill, depo, nexplanon, the patch,  IUD. I'd use a condom if your not in a monogamous relationship.

Hi, I'm 15 and just got the Nexplanon implant like a week ago. It depends on where you live but I went to planned parenthood and filled out some paperwork and got it the same day free, with out insurance or parental consent. But, if your parents finding out a big issue to you I wouldn't recommend getting it, just because when ever you go to the doctor/dentist you have to tell them you are on birth control. So unless you can tell them personally that migh be an issue. Lol but if you don't mind that I would definitely recommend calling a planned parenthood & find out your options.
