Can you lose weight during the 1st trimester?

I'm overweight and was starting to lose weight to get pregnant. Now I'm pregnant and want to know if I should keep going. What do you think?

During my first pregnancy I actually lost weight overall, but not because I was on a diet but because I made much more of an effort to eat healthy, cut out candy, exercise regularly (but moderately), etc. So I did gain a few lbs overall, but once the baby and fluids were out I weighed less than before. I think the answer to your question will depend a lot on what you have been doing to lose weight. If you changed your lifestyle and became more healthy I doubt any doctor would mind if you kept that up as long as you are not being extreme about it. But if it involved starving yourself, cutting out food groups or only drinking shakes, I have a feeling that’s not what your doctor would recommend you keep up. At any rate, make sure to talk to them.

I was overweight before my first pregnancy and had been working to lose weight with results. The first thing the doctor told me was to stop trying to lose weight. I would talk to your doctor bc everyone’s situation is different. If you’re dangerously obese or have other health problems, maybe they’ll tell you to go for it.

Everything I’ve seen says no restrictive dieting. I’m also overweight and started a diet program the month we conceived. I was sad to give it up but now I’m just trying to make healthy choices. I’ve actually lost a couple pounds since finding out I was pregnant. I don’t think it’s uncommon for women who are overweight or obese to lose some weight in the first trimester.
