Unmarried Mamas... Whose Last Name?

Curious to hear what others have done!

I am 36 and a first time mom-to-be. I’m fully established in a pretty successful professional career and have no plans to ever change my last name, even if my significant other and I were to get married. In my opinion, it’s an outdated tradition and in my circle of friends, only one has changed her name so it’s pretty common.

While my significant other and I are in a relationship, I am thinking of keeping my last name as the baby’s.

I was wondering if anyone else has done this, what prompted the decision, and what kind of reactions you’ve gotten. I’d love to hear from modern moms who have some experience!
