I've been a single mom for 5 years and recently got a boyfriend,  i fell in love and i love him very much someday i hope to get married with him, but my kids to me come first ,my love for them is unconditional they are the loves of my life , my everything. my boyfriend said to me "you are the love of my life" i replied with "i love you very much too baby" and he said "thats not what i wanted to hear" he did get hurt? am i wrong? i dont believe in happily ever afters and every guy ive been with makes promises and leaves. i dont quite believe he will be with me forever , its been a rough couple few months together. what do you guys think ?

To me there is a difference between romantic love and parental love, so I have no problem telling my boyfriend he is the love of my life because when I say that, I mean romantically. I love my children more than anything in this world, but like I said, I tell my man he’s the love of my life without any second thought.

I don’t tell my fiancée he’s the love of my life, since he knows that he’s not, because both he and my daughter share my love. He even agrees with me and says the same since he loves my daughter too

It’s a touchy thing... I can see why it would be hard. But ultimately you feel how you feel and he’s going to have to come to terms with it. 
In my life- my husband comes first, and my kids are close, but second. We feel that loving beach other first and foremost helps us to be better parents because it betters our marriage. 
However- if I was in your shoes and already had kids and then was meeting a man, I think I’d feel similar. You had them and loved them first and you have to protect them.
I hope your boyfriend can respect how much ya love your kids! Just be honest about how you feel, but remind him he’s irreplaceable to you too.
