What do you have to do to become a tattoo artist? And was it worth it to you?

Learn how to draw. Draw. Keep drawing. Do art. Draw more. Start getting tattooed. Draw. Develop rapport with Tattoo artists. Draw more. Figure out if being in a tattoo shop is something you actually like. Do more art. Put together a portfolio. Draw. Keep hanging out with your tattoo artists and their shop. Draw. Let it be known that you’re aspiring for an apprenticeship. Draw. See if they will take you on OR have other friends that will. Keep drawing. 
That’s just to get into an apprenticeship. Then the actual hard work begins. I’ve been tattooing for 5 years, I love it. Wouldn’t trade it for anything but it definitely wasn’t easy. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this industry in order to make it to where I am and thrive in my profession. It’s not something you can half ass. It’s 100% or nothing.

My opinion falls entirely in place with the other lady. 
Especially the you have to learn how to draw part. And definitely pay attention to actual anatomy. I see lots of great tattoo artists who mess up really nice pieces because they didn’t know the musculature of the area when doing a cyborg piece. Or didn’t understand bone structure and proportions so they messed up really nice skull or portrait pieces. So it’s really important to know anatomy.
