To throw a party or not?

Selina

When my daughter turned 1 last year, we didn’t throw her a big party— instead we had a small get together at my in law’s place that consisted only of immediate family. We had cake and she opened presents. We took on her first overnight trip to a pretty big and well known aquarium about a 2 hour drive from us. We opted to spend money on a trip than a big party.

She turns 2 this September 18; my husband and I have thought about throwing her an actual party this year since we didn’t do one last year BUT we are also planning to take her to Disneyland in December along with my sister in law and her boyfriend.

We chose December because of the Christmas decorations, plane tickets for the 3 of us will cost $493; Disneyland will be free for her but it will cost at least $200 just for my husband and to get in. This doesn’t include hotel, car rental, etc.

Because of this, we’re hesitating to throw her a birthday party as we feel like we’d rather take that money and take her to Los Angeles/Disneyland instead (we live in SF so it’s a short plane ride and it’ll be her first plane trip).

What do you all think?
