Vain or reasonable fear?

Mandy • I 💜 my boyfriend

I’m on a weight loss journey and despite wanting to lose weight to feel healthier and avoid diabetes, I am TERRIFIED of loose skin and going through the hard work all to STILL feel dissatisfied with my body. Anyone else experience something similar? Is this a rational fear?

I lost a lot of weight as a teen, I went from a UK size 16 to a UK 10. What personally worked for me was taking it slowly. Everyone wants to lose weight as quick as possible but that increases the chance of loose skin. Drink lots of water. Make sure you get enough vitamin C. These help the skin’s elasticity. Work out and tone up. The skin will become firmer over time, building muscle will “fill” your skin out a bit more. It may not be 100% avoidable but you can reduce the amount by taking the right steps.

Thank you (: this is also a good tip. Something I admittedly don’t do religiously. I’m really lazy when it comes to skincare

Well done on your weight loss, and excellent advice. I'd also add to use a good moisturiser all over, preferably a nice thick body butter at least once a week and a thinner body lotion (or replace with something natural like coconut oil) for everyday.

Im allergic to citrus, mainly orange. I took supplements. But leafy greens and sweet potatoes are high in Vitamin C so i also ate a lot of these

It’s a rational fear and a realistic possibility if you’re overweight by a lot. But! As hard as it would be to have loose skin, you’d be so much healthier and literally extending your life years. Do you use instagram? I follow @cdsierra and she has lost SO much weight. She has loose skin but looks amazing and is so STRONG. She’s also very kind and responds to messages. If you sent her a PM, I can almost guarantee she’d speak with you about your fears. Good luck and please don’t let loose skin discourage you. You’re so strong for living a healthier lifestyle - keep it up! 💕

I heard that putting a coconut oil wrap helps elasticity in the skin. Basically all it is, is coconut oil generously on the area you would like to "tone". Wrap with cling/seran wrap for 30 minutes and your skin will start to tighten. Haven't tried it myself as I dont have loose skin but heard it works from friends.

that is definitely a rational fear. there’s not much you can do, tho. people suggest things like drinking a lot of water, dry brushing, collagen supplements, etc. but i’m pretty sure it all comes down to genetics and how much weight you’ve lost/how quickly. there is always the option of surgery, i’ve seen them on Instagram and people look amazing once healed, so i’d say that’s definitely a viable route at the end. either way, you’re getting healthy and should be proud of the body you’ve created! easier said than done, but you’re not being irrational at all! i wish you luck on your continued journey!

Even if you have some loose skin, it’s not the end of the world. Just lose the weight slowly-no crash diets.

As long as you slowly lose the weight you shouldn’t have too much of a problem. The faster you lose the weight the more loose skin you’re more likely to have because you’re skin can’t adapt that quickly. I’m on my own weight loss journey for myself, however my goal is only about 15-20 pounds.

It’s a rational fear for sure. I think it’s important to love yourself no matter what your body looks like. As you loose and become healthier be proud of what you are accomplishing. It’s hard to know how your skin will react, but you may have a lesser chance of loose skin if your weight loss is a bit more gradual. Golf luck. 💕
