What do you think about baby showers?

Question

People tell me it's a celebration of my first born
on the other hand, family members have told me (before they found out I was pregnant) that it's an excuse for people to get free stuff when they'll get present anyway because your loved ones buy things out of excitement anyway!
I'm worried my family might start talking behind my back if I had one.
what do you think?

I had a baby shower with my first. it was  co-ed and a kabob bbq with a kiddie pool full of beer because why not? This time I'm probably going to do another bbq with smoked brisket and make it a diaper party. ultimately, your choice mama and if they want to say it's because you just want free stuff, you tell them damn right I do! because babies are expensive and they dont come with their own clothes, diapers, and toys.

Celebrate all the babies!! If people have an issue with that, they don’t deserve to be in your or your babies lives anyway.

It always shocks me to see how many people are so judgmental and rude when it comes to baby showers. There are no rules. Do what you want. For me, it was more about celebrating the baby and less about showering me. You do you. And congratulations!!

I didn’t have one just because we had poor timing and the person that offered to throw it for us expected us to provide everything (food, decor, etc). I think that they’re definitely meant to be seen as a celebration for the baby and for you though so don’t skip out on it unless you want to!

Never throw your own. It’s tacky and THAT is like demanding gifts.

I think if you want to celebrate you should! Personally I don’t want one/ didn’t have one because my family is controlling to the max and it was easier on me to just not have one. If you want one, go for it!

I think it's great, most people love babies and want to help but don't know how and this is their excise to help. 
especially if they've already had children who have grown up who either have children or don't want children. they just want to buy all the cute stuff. 
having a second baby shower I think it's a little ridiculous. especially if you are planning to have more than one kid.

I see them as a way to basically get people to buy u stuff. I don't do them I just find them grabby
