What happens during your first visit to the gynecologist?

Long story short, I'm in my first relationship so my mom got me an appointment with the gynecologist. I'm shy af and whenever I go to the doctor, she is the one that talks. Do I just say, hey doc, I'm sexually active now! What kind of questions should I ask. And what really happens in the first appointment? Is she gonna look at my concha? Oh goodness, help!

U will fill out forms. The nurse will check ur weight & vitals like any other doctor appointment, they may (or may not) ask for a urine sample, she’ll ask u some questions about ur health & lifestyle and/or the doctor will ask u the questions as well. They’ll also give u a chance to ask whatever questions u have. Once they know ur sexually active, the doctor will ask/talk to u about birth control. And, depending on ur age & their office policy, they may do wellness exam which typically includes a breast & pelvic exam, as well as a Pap smear (again, depending). The pelvic & Pap smear may be slightly uncomfortable, but it shouldn’t hurt, unless u tense up. So, try to relax! If they do the exams, the nurse & doctor will leave the room so u can undress & put on a gown & then come back in. They usually explain what they’re going to do before doing it, especially since it’s ur first visit. Once the exams are done (which are very quick), they’ll leave once again for u to get dressed. Then the doctor usually likes to talk to u in their private office, just to basically go over the appointment, which gives u another chance to ask any questions u may have or forgotten. 
I know the thought of it all can be scary, especially being examined, but it’s honestly not as bad or scary as it sounds. Just remember to be honest, as relaxed as possible (especially during a pelvic and/or Pap smear) & know that the nurses & doctors do these things everyday for ur health. 😊
