I dont know what to think

I talked to my Obgyn on Monday about schedule my c section my due date is October 18 but he said around October 10th I can have the baby or if i dont want to wait that long i can go to the hospital around October 4th and tell them im ready my question is dont i habe to have a set date or can i just walk in and say im ready?
