Does it bother you to be called "Hun"?

Question

Does it bother you to be called hun by strangers or coworkers if it isnt meant to be condescending or flirty and they just dont know your name? I said, "Excuse me Hun." to get by one of my male coworkers so that I could get to my locker and I didnt think a thing of it because I call everyone hun. The following conversation ensued.
Him:(Turning on his feet when he realized what I said) "Did you just call me hun?"
His Friend: (in a flirty tone) "OOOOHHHH!"
Me: (Not looking up from my locker) "Yeah, I guess I did! Sorry! I call everyone that when I dont know their name. If you dont like it or it offends you then I wont call you that. What is your name?" (I look up briefly and smile before going back to my locker)
Him: (smiling back goes to walk away only to turn back around) "Well, how old are you?"
Me: (confused) "21."
Him: (condescendingly) "Yeah...I'm older than you so dont call me Hun." (laughs at me still doesnt tell me his name then walks away.) 
I then told a coworker about the encounter and the coworker thought it was a bit ridiculous. I didnt really see the guy's face so I didnt know he was sitting in front of me but he turned beet red and then avoided eye contact with me for the rest of the day even when I addressed him. Idk if he was embarrassed but I feel that he might be angry. A couple of times I looked up and he was staring in my general direction so idk if he was staring at me or into the distance but now I feel I've crossed some sort of boundary that I didnt know existed. Does anyone have any advice? I don't want this to turn into a major conflict or anything. Did I do something wrong? Why is he being so weird? Why did he take offense to it only to be condescending to me? I'm quite embarrassed by the encounter considering he confronted me so loudly in the lockers. I dont want people to think I'm a flirt or something. I cant really help saying "Hun". I'm a very southern woman. I've always said it. What do I do? Any advice would be great! Thanks so much! ❤

I think you’re thinking too deep in the situation. I also call everyone hun, stranger or friend. I’d shrug it off and try to remember not to call him any names until you figure out what his name is.

I don’t like being called hun, because I usually use hun when I’m being fake polite to people I know, however I’m indifferent to it when strangers call me hun as I know it’s nothing personal.

I call everyone hun, it’s a southern thing for me some people are just rude or just don’t understand 🤷🏽‍♀️. Sounds like to me he’s a jerk😑

lol he has a big ego and sounds like an idiot. Like you said, unless you said it in a condescending way, it's a sweet way to talk to someone, IMO. It shows you're being nice.

I don’t like being called hun, when I’m at work I said “hey can you get this or hey can you help this customer while i serve the other one. 
I know everyone in my department but if I had to ask any of the new workers in the any other departments I say “hey” or “excuses me” then ask them my question.

Really doesn’t matter. Calling people “babe” is also a common one I get where I live. I think it’s sweet and endearing. To each his own, I suppose.

There isn’t anything to do, because you didn’t do anything wrong. You already apologized and explained, that’s all you can do. 
Its not uncommon to be called hun (I get called that often by cashiers/random strangers/ect.) So, I believe he got bent out of shape for no real reason 
I wouldnt worry about it, it’s not regularly seen as an offensive term, its an automatic reply and just as common and similar as saying ‘ma’am’ and ‘sir’

To me I don’t like it and think it’s should be left out of the work place all together, I find it a flirty way and I know men take it that way too. Maybe it’s just where I’m from but I think it’s really unacceptable for people to call someone an endearing name unless they are in a relationship.
