Should I try to learn drawing/painting?

When I was a child I was really into learning digital painting. I was also into anime and tried drawing a few characters. My mother found one of my drawings when I was 12 and she was so beyond furious and disgusted that I never drew again. She said they were horrible and anime was disgusting and my art was worse than trash, etc. Just thinking about it makes me so ashamed that I haven’t tried art since.

I am now 22. I find I still have that itch and yearning to really learn art. Should I try again? All I can hear is my mother’s voice in my head and I can’t even draw a straight line anymore.
