Tablet at 18 months?

to young? what do you yall think ? this generation is gonna be pure tech.......

They are going to be ‘pure tech’ only if you let them.  My family’s lifestyle does not support that; we don’t even have a TV. Personally I think 18 months is way, way too young for a tablet but to each their own.

My daughter has had one for forever now. Of course before she didn’t really know how to work it but now she knows how to play 2 games all on her own and is learning how to drag pieces to puzzles. I don’t see anything wrong with them having one as all my friends with kids her age (17 months) has one and they are very advanced. My daughter has had a tablet for forever and has been watching tv since 3 months old and still watches tv a lot with me and people say she is smart and social as a button. She watches tv or plays on my phone a lot but guess what, she still loves playing with ALL of her toys and puzzles and loves loves loves playing outside. Honestly she would stay outside all day if we let her. So I personally from my own daughter’s experience do not see any harm in letting your 18 month old have a tablet because while some see it as bad, this day and age is about technology and it can honestly help them learn too. Now I wouldn’t let him get glued to it to where that’s ALL he wants to do but I haven’t had any harm with my daughter having one all this time and I think it’s helped her with her development in some areas.

It's too young. My 17-month-old occasionally gets my phone to pretend to talk on it, and clicks randomly, but that is the limit. We try to talk to her and include her in everything, versus giving her a table to keep her occupied. Yes, even at restaurants when it is WAY easier to just have her on a tablet. She does watch Coco on the TV though. But she watches a scene, plays, runs around, makes a mess, then watches another scene and so on.

I was not saying give my child a tablet or a phone to just not be a parent. There are a lot of interactive apps that can teach and if I sit down with her for 10 minutes with it and she dances and sings and interacts, I think that is LEARNING. but in a different way. I also dont agree with taking it into a store or restaurant. But i do agree with keeping it at home or maybe even in the car for long rides. Just to do something different. its literally just like watching a TV show that sings Abcs besides you get to interact with the characters and touch the screen. I dont think a parent that gives their child a tablet makes them any less of a parent as long as they have rules with it. I'm all about telling my child to go play or when shes older to go outside and play rather than play with electronics. but you know this is a different generation and we didnt have all this cool tech while growing up.

My daughter has one and it’s solely for learning purposes. She has learned a lot from her games & I make sure to show her other ways of learning ie flash cards. She still loves “reading” her books too. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. Just limit there time

No tech in our house. He holds our phones and pushes the home button, but that’s about it. He gets bored after a hot minute and wanders off to find his toys. Too young IMO.

I think it’s too young. My 17 month old will not be using a tablet till atleast 2 maybe later. My 3 year old got an iPad for her 3rd bday. I feel that’s the most reasonable age. She barely ever uses it anyways really she’s rather run and play with her sisters. My 7 year old rather read physical books and color and paint. I think giving screens too young limits creativity and imagination. Just my opinion
