Breastfeeding HELP!! ASAP

Katy

My DD turns 8 weeks on Wednesday she has been EBF the entire time. I have always produced fairly well (not too much & more than a little). So today she has been the fussiest I have ever seen her. Wants to be help constantly, eating every 1.5 hours, and won’t sleep. My breasts feel so empty (not felt full at all today). I know she had to be getting some from me today because she had 10+ wet diapers & 5 BM’s. However I just felt like she wasn’t getting enough so I made a bottle from frozen breastmilk and gave my breast a break allowing them to fill back up... she finally feel asleep and slept for 3+ hours so I pumped in place of the bottle. I only pumped out 1.2 ounces in 20 minutes (I would usually put out at least 5 ounces in the past from doing the same thing)!! What can I do??? I am so scared that I am drying up :(((

Regarding not feeling full--that hard, full feeling goes away around 6-8 weeks. I noticed the same thing so I did some research. You will still be producing as much milk but if you are doing regular feedings they will stay soft.

It might be a good idea to have some ready made meals or one handed snacks on hand for days when she is eating a lot.

That could be a factor... Days that she is needing lots of attention. I don’t have time to eat a lot or cook a good meal. My husband works night shift and 12 hour shifts 4 days in a row. So trying to keep house, take care of her, and prepare for myself takes a lot.

Are you still staying hydrated and eating good meals? If I have a day where I don't eat or drink enough I usually see a dip in my supply.

It could be a growth spurt. Fussy, eating constantly, and empty beasts sound like our growth spurts (as does feeling frustrated and like you are drying out).I suspect in the next 24-48 hours you will be feeling normal if not slightly engorged as your supply responds to the demand. If you feel in your bones, your supply is dipping, it could be that you aren’t getting enough calories, aren’t drinking enough water or you ate something (ex wheat grass in a smoothie) that aren’t good for supply.

Brewers yeast!! It’s AWESOME!!! I put 2 Tbs in with flax meal with my steel cut oats and protein powder for breakfast and it works like a charm!!! I noticed a huge decline when I started running again and once I started taking it, writhing 24 hours my milk was abundant!!
