Dealing with a toxic mum in the lead up to giving birth.

Becky • Mum of 2 👯‍♀️.

I'm 29 weeks and staying at my parents house while my husbands away for the week (just incase anything were to happen and I was left on my own). My dad is great, but my mum is an alcoholic who is depressed, emotionally and verbally abusive, who refuses to smoke outside the house. The house STINKS, the smoke makes me especially nauseous now that I'm pregnant and all she does is sit on her phone all day. She has offered to babysit when the baby is born, but I don't trust her to look after the baby and after this week I'm wondering if I need her around at all? My dad just rolls his eyes and says "you know your mum, it's the way she is". Has anyone else distanced themselves from their mum during this time? Am I being hormonal and too hard on her?
