Metformin

Meagan

I had a miscarriage in 2014, I have since had a successful pregnancy, I am now pregnant again. I was on metformin for my second pregnancy but was on it before I found out I was pregnant, should I call and get back on it? Does it help prevent miscarriages? I do have PCOs.

Not sure if this will help any but I was on Metformin for over a year when I became pregnant and I had to stay on it until I was in the second trimester then had to stop it because it’s not healthy for the baby (atleast that’s what my OB,primary and ER nurse said) but it increases chances of a miscarriage if you stop it in the first trimester

But if I’m not on it already will it help prevent miscarriage? I read online it does but you can’t trust google lol

You may also want to ask about progesterone supplements. With my first I was already on metformin and also continued taking it until 12 weeks (along with progesterone). With my second I wasn’t taking metformin (was still breastfeeding), so didn’t START it, but I did take the progesterone due to low HCG readings.

Thanks!! I never had progesterone issues with my first! My doc was out of office today so tomorrow hopefully I can at least get the metformin!
