Should I have Down Syndrome Testing done at 3 Months?

Please explain to me why- I’m feeling really nervous about it. I don’t think it’s necessary and I don’t want to
This is my first pregnancy that’s made it this far, healthy! Thank you Jesus- but I was just wondering if this testing is NECESSARY and if you would do it?

I did, it doesn’t just test for Down syndrome, it also tests for other disorders as well. I did it with my first daughter mainly to know the gender (it included that), but then with the test I found out she had monosomy x, in which I had never heard of before and it didn’t run in my family nor her fathers so it was just a random thing that occurred (which you don’t have to have a certain disorder run in your family in order for your baby to have it). She ended up passing away straight after birth from the disorder because it caused her to go into heart failure and kidney failure. Knowing she had the disorder helped prepare me for her death since I already knew it was going to most likely happen but I was expecting to lose her while she was still in the womb. I had the test done again with my second daughter because I know if I wouldn’t have gotten it done I would’ve been a mess wondering if she had the monosomy x as well because it wasn’t detected on any ultrasound with my first. My insurance covered it both the times I had it so I didn’t have to pay anything, even if my daughter would’ve survived her disorder it wouldn’t have changed anything and never would I terminate because of it, but for me I’m very happy I had the testing done.

Definitely NOT necessary! I decided not to test with my last pregnancy nor this pregnancy. I know women who have tested and received inaccurate results. I couldn't imagine being stressed the entire pregnancy thinking my child has down syndrome then when they arrive they are perfectly fine vice a versa....in my opinion God will never bless me with something I couldn't handle  :)

I would rather be prepared (& have the dr/hospital be prepared) if my child were going to be born with any syndromes or issues.

my father doesn’t know his side of the family other than a few people on his mother’s side, so i may do it because i don’t know what runs on his side.

You don’t have to. I didn’t with my first just because it wouldn’t have changed anything. And my insurance didn’t cover it so it was kind of a big out of pocket expense   This one I might if insurance covers it. Just to know if anything’s wrong just to be prepared

We were low risk for any issues but I decided to do the test for the peace of mind that everything was fine. It came back negative and I feel much less worried and anxious. If you don’t want to you don’t have to!

It’s not NECESSARY, and thought it would not determine whether I HAD my baby or not... my husband and I just wanted to know, so that if the chances were greater, we could be prepared & educated about what we may face.
