Epidural or Natural?

Is getting epidural even worth it? I’ve heard stories about it not even working long, or doctors messing up and sticking you with the needle a million times, also the long term affects it has. I’d like to have a natural birth anyways but if it came down to it and I thought I really needed it, should I just try to pull through?

I had an epidural with my first. I had a good experience. However, this pregnancy I'm going all natural at a birth center. I want to feel in control of my labor. A large portion of going successfully unmedicated is mind set and research. I am 100% dedicated to doing unmedicated unless there is an emergency that requires c section. I have discovered, unless the person really mentally prepares, and knows what is to be expected when going into labor, they are likely to give in and get epidural. If you want natural labor, do research, study, talk to other natural mama's, watch documentaries. Learn about orgasmic birth and about how to deal with contractions in a positive way so you are able to handle them and feel little pain. Feel free to message me for resources! No matter what you chose, trust your body and your team, and remember that each contraction brings you closer to your baby, and you'll do amazing!

I actually got 2 epidurals the first at 7cm and then again when the doctor was trying to get my placenta out. The afterbirth for me was THE WORST PAIN EVER. Everyone is different but without it I don’t think I could have handled that. Now where I had the needle in will hurt now and again.

Totally worth it for me. I was on pitocin and my contractions were literally bringing me to my knees. Like my husband had to catch me. It’s the only way I got any sleep before I started pushing. It lasted a long time and I had a button I could push to administer more if I felt it wearing off. I mean I got it at about 5-6 am and it didn’t start wearing off til 11-noon when I gave birth. Had I not been on pitocin I don’t think I’d have needed it, but I’m glad I got it!

Worth it for me! I always wanted to have a natural labor, part of me still does. But it’s literally not been possible for my body. I have pelvic floor dysfunction (my muscles are too tight and rigid) and my body really struggles to dilate. Every time I get the epidural I go from a couple centimeters to complete in a half hour or less! 
They usually turn it down for pushing so I can have more control (I’ve felt the ring of fire), but I’m sure it beats how bad it would be fully unmedicated. 
Due with my 4th in February and planning on my 4th epidural!

There’s also a choice of iv analgesics! See if they have that option. The side effects to that one is drowsiness and nausea. 
I’m going to try and go as natural as possible and if it gets unbearable I’m going to get the IV.

If you can do it, you are a super human lol no really it is a better recovery time! It just hurts so damn bad.. I’ve had 3 epidurals and I’ve never felt a thing but the head coming out of my whooha.

I asked for an Epidural during Labor and it didn’t take was a total waste of my time. After a few more house I  had to have a C-Section and was told if the Spinal didn’t take I would need to be put to sleep, luckily it did. 
Personally I wouldn’t go in with any expectations of the Labor or how you will cope with the pain. Take it as it comes. For me the pain was unbearable but everyone is different
