Anyone experienced an hcg rise after ectopic pregnancy and had it resolve naturally?

I had surgery to remove my ovarian ectopic embryo 3 weeks ago. Numbers initially fell nicely but in my last beta they’d risen by a single point. This was enough that my OB wants to give me methotrexate. I’m going to have one more beta done tomorrow and then the meth is scheduled for Friday. However, I would love to be able to avoid the methotrexate if possible (the whole thing scares me a bit and also I don’t want to have to wait to try again as I’m 38 and we’ve already been trying for two years) and also my period seems like it might be about to start (cramping that feels mild and normal and some spotting). Has anyone had their numbers fall again naturally after a rise? Did your period come back around that time? (My fertility doc said that if it is my period, it should be a good sign).
