If this has been debated before lmk I’ll take it down.

I saw this debate about how prostitution itself should be decriminalized, but the act of soliciting a prostitute, or of pimping should be criminalized. Essentially, the pimp and the John would get in trouble, but the prostitute could walk free. The two main reasons supporting this included:

#1 Prostitutes could now go to law enforcement if someone raped them, or was trafficking them. And this would thus decrease sex trafficking.

#2 Government could then put together health clinics for prostitutes to get tested, get BC, and get educated and healthy.

Personally, I like the idea. I feel like we don’t protect sex workers enough. And I also feel like the people who should get in trouble are the ones who create the market and traffic the people to provide the service. Especially because it can be hard for trafficked individuals to come forward if they’re afraid of legal repercussions.
