C-section recovery Tips????

Hi all! I’m a FTM scheduled to have a c-section this Saturday. I’m curious if any of you have had one and can give me some tips on things to help recovery. TIA!!

Get an abdominal binder! The hospital sent me home with two and I wore them 24/7 unless I was in the shower. Within two weeks, my stomach was completely flat again but more importantly, the pressure from the binders took away all discomfort that I would’ve felt without them. If you can, try your best to avoid taking medication too often because you don’t want to fall dependent upon them. Even in the hospital, I only asked for pain meds a few times and once we left, didn’t take any more. I wanted to know when my body was in pain so that I could avoid making any specific movements so as to avoid prolonging the pain.

Walk, walk, walk.. even when it hurts to move get up and walk after. The quicker you are up and moving the quicker the recovery. I’ve had two. My first I “babied” myself and didn’t get moving as much as I should and the recovery was so much easier with my second when I forced myself to get up and walk around the halls of the hospital as much as possible. Also, make sure you have a good post surgical binder. Ask your doctor if the hospital offers them and if not go pick one up at a medical supply store or order one on Amazon.

Definitely get the catheter out asap and walk. Drink lots of water and DO take the meds on schedule for at least 3 days. Don't overdo it the first two weeks! 
The weird numbing sensation that came over my chest after the spinal was scary for me, just take deep breaths! Sometimes the medicine from surgery make you itch. Some women swell I didn't with my first and did with my second. It was the same with my belly/insision area too. It swelled/retained water after my second, not with my first. 
Walk, rest and meds!!!

I had a wonderful c section experience back in December! 
Keep up with your pain meds! Have them bring them to you on the schedule and have them wake you up to take them! I was suggested this by my nurse and I was never in pain! I had one night with a different nurse and she cane to give me my pills 3 hours late! (Sleeping) and that was the only time I was in pain!

Make sure you have someone to help you out the first week or so (laundry, cleaning, or anything that involves lifting or twisting). I didn’t and got a hernia as a result.
