Baby shower email invitations..yay or nay?

I'm currently in the process of choosing invitations for my baby shower. While emails invitations are significantly cheaper, I also saw it as not such a big hassle. However I feel printed invitations maybe the more polite way to go. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks ladies!

We emailed ours out and people just rsvped to my parents.

I wouldn't think anything of email baby shower invitations.  I would think it is odd for the invitation to come directly from the mom to be rather than a friend or family member who is hosting the shower for her though.
