Flying with baby- what to bring? ADVICE

We are planning a trip and the flight will be about 5 hours. We are looking for recommendations on which car seat and stroller to bring. Also- what is the most smooth process? Looking forward to all your advice! He is 10 months.

First, make sure to have toys for entertainment. Our nine-month old daughter has flown many times before. My husband and I always be sure to buy new toys for her before the flight. She's more interested if they're new. She has flown four (or eight if you include return flights) already and we have never had problems with her being fussy or anything during a flight. She was a little restless during an international flight, but that was it  Also, have plenty of breast milk and snacks in a cooler. Our daughter was three months during the time of her first flight and she was asleep during takeoff. However, during the return flight, she was awake so I gave her a bottle of breast milk during takeoff. Be sure to have a diaper tote or backpack diaper bag with basic essentials such as diapers, wipes, toys, blankets, change of clothing, eating utensils, sippy cup (or bottle), etc. As for car seat and stroller, her first two flights (she was three months and four months) so we checked her travel system in at the gate. However, when she turned six months, we started purchasing seats for her and bringing her car seat onboard. We still check her stroller in at the gate. A baby carrier is much easier for maneuvering through the airport. My husband and I have skipped TSA lines because I was wearing her.

What age will baby be? For under 6 months I took my travel system (car seat and stroller) and gate checked them that way the baby had a place to rest and sleep before or in between flights. A couple of times I got lucky and the seat was empty next to me and she got to stay in her car seat, which was amazing. Over 6 months I just took stroller to gate and checked my car seat.
For the actual traveling in the plane I always got brand new toys for her to play with and be interested in for as long as possible throughout the flight. Lots of teethers, ones with light up buttons, even videos on my cellphone depending on the age. I found a neck pillow handy for under your elbow when bottle feeding or nursing. Lots of wipes bc airplanes are full of germs. Snacks or plenty of milk if they’re not eating food yet. Our last flight we got stuck on the tarmac for over an hour, would have been a nightmare if we didn’t have an extra bottle. GOOD LUCK and remember if baby gets fussy, you’ll most likely never see these people again. They can deal with it as long as you’re taking care of your baby (best advice I got from a sweet flight attendant)
